Necessary Facts to Maintain Your Child's Security Online

Certainly you want to protect your children when they are using the internet, but policing them every minute may bring the opposite results you want. Is there a way to not watch them all the time, but still protect them? If parents have been raising their children right, then they should be able to trust that they will do the right thing. Looking over someone's shoulder or spying is not necessarily a very good way to give guidance. Freedom and protection are both needed when your children are online, and the following hints will help.

It is not always anonymous predators causing problems but sometimes it's other kids from their school or neighborhood. Bullying and harassment that occurs online is described as cyber-
bullying now. It can happen on emails, social networks or even instant messages. Unfortunately because of these tactics, some children have committed suicide.

It is important to keep communication lines open with you child so they can talk to you, even though things do not normally reach this extreme. If you find out that your child is being bullied online then there are several things you can do, such as notify the site that the bully is using and tell the other child's parents or the school.

It is the duty of the parents to do everything they feel is right in order to protect their children, even though it might seem like an invasion of privacy. There's a good reason for this, as you want to protect your child from possibly harmful influences. The same holds true online, and in some ways you have to be even more careful on the internet. That's because people online aren't always who they claim to be. So keep track of who your child's online friends are, and instruct them not to share personal information with anyone they haven't met in person. People online are always trying to get your personal information. so you need to be pretty blunt with your children that they should never do it.

If you connect with your child online then you will be able to keep track of what they are doing. If your child knows more than you about the internet then maybe you should learn the ropes. You should join the same social networks and online services that your child uses and add them as a friend. You don't have to behave in a heavy-handed manner -just make the internet another way for you to stay in touch.

Send emails and instant messages every so often. This will help to keep you in the same universe as your child.

Just because we have been focusing on the dangers of children online and their need of protection, that doesn't mean that something bad is going to happen to all children. Not much can happen to you children as long as they know enough to keep all sensitive information to themselves, and offer no encouragement. Teaching how to live is the responsibility of the parents, and learning is the job of the children.
